July 3, 2018
A Dell computer running Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office 2013 was having intermittent errors retrieving email.  The error popped up in the send/receive details but went away quickly.  So I checked in the application error log.  NOTHING Microsoft vs. Microsoft

 Error 0x800CCC1A

Sometimes it is amazing to see solutions to errors reported in the application log that detail ways to stop the error from being reported (only a Band-Aid).  In this case we have Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office that should be compatible and should record errors.  Well so much for finger pointing.

In this case, I found out that the AVG antivirus email shield could cause this problem.  After disabling the email shield, the error message ceased (not a Band-Aid).
