DNS-321 Operations

Configure New Drives

  1. Attach the drive to Ethernet network with DHCP

  2. Insert 2 drives in the bay

  3. Press and hold the reset button 15 seconds

  4. Run Belarc Advisor to determine the ip

  5. Log into the drive with browser

  6. Setup --> LAN

    1. Set Static IP

  7. Setup --> Device

    1. Set Workgroup and name

  8. Tools --> RAID

    1. Standard (Two Separate Drives)

    2. Raid 0 (Striping - best performance - no fault tolerance)

    3. Raid 1 (Mirroring - best reliability)

    4. JBOD (Linear - Combines Drives - no fault tolerance)

      1. Just a Bunch Of Disks

Format the Drives

  1. Tools --> RAID --> RAID Configuration

  2. Set RAID Type and Re-Format

  3. RAID 1 --> Next

  4. Select file system --> EXT 2 --> Next

  5. Enable Auto-Rebuild ( checked) --> Next

  6. Enable Capacity (max) --> Next

 

Stopping SyncbackPro to avoid going over usage limit

  1. Advanced --> FTP Server --> Stop FTP Server
    1. This avoids having to physically turn the unit off.

Cloning the NAS-321 (Firmware 1.03)

  1. Login to applications
  2. Scheduling --> Login Method (account of drive to backup)
    1. Select Folder
    2. Select URL
    3. ftp://192.168.1.47/Volume_1/ (forward slashes)
    4. Be sure the FTP access uid and pwd are correct on the server
  3. Scheduling --> recurring backup
  4. Note: the NAS-321 can only host ftp sessions and NOT http.
  5. NAS-321 drives with striped raid partitions can hold up to 4tb
    1. It is therefore incumbent to use the fastest connection while cloning.

 

 

Check the run time on hard drives

  1. Status --> Hard Drive Info
  2. Click on the "Normal" button
  3. Item 9 - Power On Hours

Replacing a failed RAID 1 drive

  1. Note: If a RAID1 drive has failed, the DNS-320/321/323/325 Series ShareCenter will display the HDD LED light, of the corresponding drive, in Amber and you will receive an email from the DNS-320/321/323/325 stating a drive has failed if this option has been configured
  2. Power down the ShareCenter
  3. Remove the failed drive from the ShareCenter
  4. Insert the new drive into the ShareCenter
    1. Note: The new drive Should be blank with no partition on the drive The drive may still be detected and prompt to format if formatted in NTFS
  5. Power on the ShareCenter
  6. After a minute log into the ShareCenter web interface
  7. You will be prompt to format and resync on entry, click OK
    1. Note: Formatting a hard drive will erase the data stored on the hard drive. Please backup important data before formatting a hard drive
    2. Note: This action will format the replaced drive only and sync the two hard drives in RAID1
  8. Wait for format and resync to complete.
  9. The ShareCenter is now ready for use
